Have talking points – 4-5 key areas over which you have complete command. Whenever you are given a chance to talk on your own, start with these areas. They can be anything under the sun: sports, music, politics, cooking, travel.
A word of caution here. If you list something as a hobby or area of interest, make sure you have exhaustive knowledge about it, superficial knowledge won’t work. It is very likely that there will be a number of questions and cross questions here. Also, be a little selective about these. How a person likes to spend his or her time says a lot about him/her.
Speak from your heart. If you believe in what you say, it reflects well. Build trust and good rapport with the panel. It will make you come across as a genuine candidate.
